What Are Some of the Common Issues Kids and Teens Face?

Depression

People of all ages can suffer from depressive disorders, which will negatively affect the way you feel, think, and act. Highly treatable, depression often causes a loss of interest in activities previously enjoyed, feelings of sadness and distress, and the ability to concentrate and function at school and home. It can lead to other emotional and physical problems if left untreated.

Trauma & PTSD

PTSD can develop from experiencing or witnessing events such as combat, natural disasters, accidents, and assaults, including sexual assaults, and other acts of violence. Intrusive thoughts, avoidance issues, sleep disorders, and depression can result.

Anxiety

While anxiety can simply be a part of daily life, anxiety disorders cause frequent, extreme fear, worry, and even terror. Some anxiety builds to a debilitating peak known as a panic attack.

Relationship and Identity Issues

Children and teens may be experiencing issues with identity or relationships such as peer relationships, romantic relationships, gender concerns, LGBTQ, and transgender issues.

Counseling can help kids and teens to work through and move beyond issues they may be experiencing.

Substance Abuse Issues

People of all ages can develop issues with substance abuse, but teens are at an extremely stressful and vulnerable age for them, including abuse of alcohol and other drugs. From peer pressure to self-medication for other mental health issues, dealing with substances can be a difficult situation, but one which skilled counseling can help.
